He wants a vest, not a sweater...
so I'm going to make him this vest using the Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran Tweed in the #129 Enamel. I'm going to order the yarn tomorrow. I'm not quite sure how much to order though. Hopefully the yarn will turn the pattern into a masterpiece and not the outrageous Seventies Snobby tennis party garb pictured in the link. I'm still deciding whether or not to join the Man-Along. Never done anything like that before, so I'm trying to get up the nerve.
I'm procrastinating on the last sleeve. Ugh. I have to finish it tomorrow.

Yarns, yarns and more yarns
So my husband wants a sweater. I'm still settling on a pattern, but it's going to be a simple v-neck pullover in a cable and rib pattern similar to my nephew's sweater (which, by the way, now has a sleeve attached. Did I mention I hate finishing?). I'm trying to decide on a yarn. So far the yarns in the running are as follows:
Vittadini Trina
Filatura di Crosa Zara Plus
Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran
and last but not least, Jo Sharp's Silkroad Aran. I can't decide here between a tweed or a solid.
I figure I'll knit the sweater using 8/9 needles. All of these yarns fit the bill. I've knit with both the Cashmerino Aran and the Zara (well, the DK Zara) but all the projects have been blankets. I enjoyed both yarns. But, I'm really looking forward to trying the Trina and the Silkroad. Both have gotten really good write ups on Knitter's Review. I just hope I can find some in my LYS. Not that there aren't a million of them in the city, but still, I'd love to find all the yarns in ONE STORE. Don't think it's going to happen though.
I think he wants a navy color like my nephew's. I'm sort of sick of blue, which is why the Silkroad Tweed is sounding nice. Spice things up a little.

Finishing
I'm getting better at it. I really am. But it's still the worst part of the job for me. I've been working on a sweater for my nephew. It's the Cable and Rib Sweater with Hood in the Debbie Bliss book, The Baby Knits Book. I'm almost done. I have to attach the sleeves, seam up the sides and darn in all the darn ends. But it's looking really good. I started off with Debbie Bliss's Cotton Cashmere, No. 12, but didn't like it so I switched to Rowan's Wool Cotton in French Navy. I love this yarn. The sweater was knit on US size 5/6 Addi Turbos.

My nephew is dying for his sweater. I made his sister a poncho and told him his sweater was next. He wanted to know if it would have arms, since his sister's poncho doesn't. Every day he asks me, are you knitting my sweater? Are you thinking about me when you knit it? Yes, my honey. I think about you every day.
Back to the sweater. My husband likes it so much, he wants his own. So I'm searching desperately for a v-neck pattern that I can modify with ribs and cables.

Ponchos
Okay, so everyone and their grandmother has one. But still, I'm partial to big soft things that wrap around me so I made one.
I used the basketweave pattern featured in the men's pullover in the Fall 2004 Interweave Knits and paired it with the Manos del Uruguay Poncho Pattern. Using Debbie Bliss's Cashermino Superchunky #18 (Pea Green) on No. 13 (US) needles, I gave the basketweave a garter stitch border which added a nice v-neck neckline. Here are a couple of snaps:

Sorry about the color - it's so off. (And the scary thing is I'm a photographer!)

Purls of Wisdom
Quite a self-important title, huh? I can assure you - I'm nowhere close to as wise as I'd like to be - but the knitting is helping.
