A 3 for 1 Deal

My sock pal socks - Koigu and Evelyn Clark. Doesn't get any better than this. Very easy knit so far - it's going so fast. Right there is two repeats and I could easily get through a third tonight. I have to pace myself for the plane, I think.
I got a dress this morning - tried to find a picture on the web but couldn't. Still need shoes, but I'm not so worried about that. I probably won't post again until after we're in Cali.
Calling All California Knitters
We've got one night in Hel-LA, two nights in Santa Barbara and two nights in San Luis Obispo. Where should I go? I'm going to try to hit Wildfiber in Santa Monica on our one day/night in LA. And then I found a couple of places in Santa Barbara - In Stitches looks interesting. Pipe up if you've got a place in LA (our hotel is in Hollyweird and my bro lives in Santa Monica), Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo. Thanks!
I thought it was pretty funny - I was typing in Santa Barbara knitting into google and you know how it brings up previous search strings? Well I got Santa Barbara clay tennis courts. Guess someone was there before me. My Georgie is such a honey.
Anyway - I'll try to post from California - but if not, be prepared for pictures from San Simeon - and I promise to get a couple of me in my dress and shawl. Thanks!

Wildfiber happens to be 12 blocks from my work, Cara. Wow, it would be great to meet you, if you have time. If you're in Santa Barbara you can also try to make it to Solvang, which has the Village Spinning/Weaving Shop. Solvang is very touristy, though...

Yes, meet up with MJ! She's great. Wildfiber is a must. If you want esoteric Noro, check out La Knitterie Parisienne. Have fun!

Hello from Santa Barbara. An even better knitting shop in SB is BB's Knits on upper State Street (3030 State Street--(805) 569-0531) It's open Tue through Sat 10-5:30. Joanne, Barb (BB), and Ginny would love to help you out! Tell them Kathie (Lily's mom) sent you.
Between LA and SB there is The Treasure Chest in Carpinteria. They have quilting and knitting supplies there. It's on Maple Avenue--from the 101 take the Linden exit go toward the beach, left on Carp Ave., right on Maple...
Have a great trip! Maybe we'll see you at BB's I've got a project that is giving me trouble...

Love the socks, C.

I also live in Santa Barbara and agree with Kathie. I'd go to BB's. When you're in San Luis, there's really no knitting shops there, but just a few miles away in Cambria is a fabulous shop. I can't think of the name right now, but it's the only one. Google Cambria yarn or knitting and it will probably come up.

In LA definitely La Knitterie. It's worth the trip.

When I was living in LA, I really liked going to Knit Cafe; it's in the West LA area, just past the Melrose Ave shopping district. I've also heard good things about La Knitterie, but never got a chance to go there myself. Have a good trip!

Have fun, Cara! So glad you found a dress (can't wait for pics w/shawl) -- and such nice advice from CA folks about where to go. Have a wonderful, wonderful time!!

Okay, like. . . is that fair? Simultaneous submissions? It gives me an idea: a knit along of objects that satisfy two or more KALs at once? It would be very, uh, "meta".
Have a great trip.

1. I LOVE your rose photo in the side bar. How did you get the black background? Was it hard?
2. Your sock is looking fabulous. I love the pattern
3. I adore your FBS & the color of it!!! I know I allready told you. I had to tell you again! ;-)

Knit cafe is a must. It's my casa away from casa. wildfibers has wonderful stuff as well and La knitterie is a good one, too. Be prepared for west coast sticker shock, though. Things get more expensive (and more fabulous!) on the other coast.

Ooooo, I love that lace pattern, and the color, and the yarn. I'm also looking for some lace socks to keep me busy on a plane next week.

oh goodness! Your socks are fab!

The pattern is spectacular, and it works so well with the yarn. Delightful! (Do people still use that word anymore?)
Sorry, I can't help you with yarn shops in the areas you're visiting. I'm further east. Solvang is a great place to visit, yarn shops or no yarn shops.

I love the pattern on those socks...I don't usually care much one way or the other about lace patterns, but the one you've chosen is cool.

The store in Cambria is Ball and Skein and More, and you'll need an hour and a fresh credit card.
The Flying Fuzzies in Cambria is now carrying some knitting yarn, specifically LaBoheme and La Luz. They also have some beautiful Mandalay silk, but BB's price in Santa Barbara is better.
Sounds like fun.

Black Sheep Knittery is in Hollywood - beautiful yarns, very friendly folks.
Love your socks!!
