WHOA NELLY!

Did you see 24 last night?!?! HOLY CRAP! G and I are still talking about LAST season, which we thought was right up there with the first season. And maybe the second. The third was a little weak, but OHMYFUCK! This one is shaping up just fine, and we're only two hours in! As long as I still got my soul patch, I'm good. G, of course, has the man crush on Jack, but I'm all over Tony A. I'm thinking of getting G one of these t-shirts. What do you think?

As goofy as it all is, it's kind of nice for both of us to be so excited about something, you know, together. I've decided the reason 24 is so satisfying is because it has just enough soap opera for me, and just enough inane unnecessary violence for G. And there's just enough oh my god that would so never happen in a million years but isn't it fun to fantasize to keep everyone happy. Thanks Jack! We really need you right now.

In other news, are you a sky watcher? I am!

Facing West, taken around 8:30 this morning off my balcony. Sandy, my love, my hair was extra wild today and the jammies were on and it was FREEZING!

Thanks for all the offers of help with the Jaywalker KAL. I didn't mean to sound as if I was complaining about the updates, I'm really not, I was just saying that with the amount of people involved, it's not really feasible to do the funny epic updates I was doing. I really like going through all the blogs - I've made some new friends that way, really, and it's great seeing what everyone is up to. I honestly thought about doing a separate blog for jaywalkers - I've already got one set up for CIT, and I've been involved in KALs like that before, but I wanted to keep track of this one myself for the giveaway. There are rules I've asked participants to comply to in order to be entered in the drawing and I want to be able to keep on top of that. Maybe after Feb 14th I'll set up another blog, but for now, I'm good. Thanks again though for all the suggestions.

I've had a pretty productive weekend, including a nice outing with Jen yesterday, replete with KILLER BIRDS, but that's for tomorrow's post. (Jen, thank god you were there - I don't think ANYONE would believe me if you hadn't been there. It really happened right?) In the meantime, I can't stop giving stuff away.

Be the FIRST to identify, in the comments, what I've been knitting this weekend (pictured above) EXACTLY, and I will send you a skank of Prove It All Night Socks That Rock and an orange chibi. Leave your guesses in the comments. And if I TOLD (or emailed you) about it, you are NOT ELIGIBLE. Oh yeah and here's a clue. It's NOT a jaywalker.

I say baby sweater.

Posted by: Heather at January 16, 2006 09:58 AM

I say a sweater with a rolled bottom and garter cuffs.

Posted by: Rosemary at January 16, 2006 10:02 AM

Um, Sitcom Chic from knitty?

Posted by: Chris at January 16, 2006 10:13 AM

I think it is Pippa from Amelia'a site.

Posted by: Lisa at January 16, 2006 10:13 AM

I'm probably being a bit bold here. I have a question/request to ask of you regarding a mutual friend. Could you email me? THanks.

Posted by: genia at January 16, 2006 10:22 AM

I think it's those denim baby pants from Last Minute Knitted Gifts

Posted by: Anita at January 16, 2006 10:23 AM

Last night's was the first ever episode my husband watched, and he was sucked right into it. I watched the first season, the second sporadically and the rest not at all, and last night's ep was so well done that I caught right up. I agree that it is nice to have something to watch with your hubby. Usually we have to go to separate tvs because he wants to watch hockey and I want to watch a movie.

Posted by: Martha at January 16, 2006 10:37 AM

It's the short row pullover.

Posted by: trek at January 16, 2006 10:40 AM

No idea (though I'm guessing a sweater of some kind), but really . . . I'm in shock that it's NOT a pair of Jaywalkers, so, who can think??

Posted by: --Deb at January 16, 2006 10:44 AM

my guess is the Hourglass sweater from last minute knitted gifts.

Posted by: jackie at January 16, 2006 10:49 AM

A sweater for G?

Posted by: Annie at January 16, 2006 10:50 AM

Could you be swatching/sampling for CIT?

Posted by: Bethe at January 16, 2006 11:00 AM

You did it, you did it! Cool!!
Keifer Sutherland shot a movie (he was director and star)and used my business as his headquarters in 1997, I believe. It was a REALLY bad movie and it had several names before release and may not have even been released except in video form. But, he was so full of himself and acted as if every eye was on him at all times. The grrls in my office were totally unimpressed. The catering company was very good however and fed us daily.

Posted by: margene at January 16, 2006 11:00 AM

A sweater for your youngest nephew. 24 was good, but we missed the last 10 minutes due to taping from 8-10 and it not airing from 8-10. Damn football!

Posted by: Lauren at January 16, 2006 11:05 AM

Where do I e-mail progress photo's of my Jaywalker??

Posted by: carla at January 16, 2006 11:06 AM

I totally thought of you last night when we tuned into Jack Bauer - what a start to the show - wow!

Posted by: Lolly at January 16, 2006 11:12 AM

**WARNING: 24 spoilers embedded in this comment in case you didn't watch it last night***

Oh yeah, it's all about the soul patch! I do have to admit, I'm really sad Michelle died (and President Palmer, too). But 24 is one of my all-time favorite shows! My boyfriend and I watch it religiously on tv. I can't wait to catch it tonight. This is the only show I won't knit during. I'm afraid I'll miss something if I happen to look down!

Posted by: Angela at January 16, 2006 11:13 AM

Mittens? (*hopeful look*)

Posted by: Jasmin at January 16, 2006 11:15 AM

Oh, the color is so lovely. I'm hoping that whatever it is that you can't put it down and you finish it shortly. Then you can knit a few rows on an Am Kamin swatch. Get it?

Posted by: Teresa C at January 16, 2006 11:19 AM

How about you just feel sorry for me since I'm sick and let me win? I have no clue.... lol

Posted by: Scout at January 16, 2006 11:30 AM

I think whatever it is, it's blue.

Posted by: ann at January 16, 2006 11:31 AM

Cripes, I can't believe that first 15 minutes of 24!!!! Hubby and I looked like fish out of water, our mouths kept opening and closing and gasping for air. You're killing off all the great characters in the first 15 mintues??!!? Tony, baby, you've got to pull through. hee hee

I know someone else already guessed this, but I sure hope it's your short-row pullover. It's going to be an epic accomplishment when it's finished.

Posted by: Karma at January 16, 2006 11:33 AM

wow.. hmm.. could it be a klaralund? nah.. mabye not..But it could be right? can't you just pretend it is.. I have never even seeeen socks that rock yarn..
Pppppllease!

Posted by: Denise at January 16, 2006 11:38 AM

Uhm, is it the hourglass sweater from LMKG? Just a random guess but worth a shot.

And I totally understand the 24 thing...though it isn't 24 for us but two Wed. night shows, Lost and Invasion.

Posted by: amanda at January 16, 2006 11:42 AM

I'm not the first to say it but I think it's the denim pants from Kay's knitty pattern.

Posted by: Carole at January 16, 2006 11:48 AM

Cara!! I swear you are my #1 favorite blogger! Your knitting, your wit, and now this.... 24! My boyfriend and I started last season and since then have rented season 1 and 3, and then Last Night Happened! Holy Mutha F*cking Sh!t! Good show!

dude, no idea what you're knitting, but you need to seriously tell me how to get some prove it all night! ;-)

Posted by: margaux at January 16, 2006 12:13 PM

Posted by: kris at January 16, 2006 12:13 PM

prairie blanket?

I love 24!!! but for me, I'm waiting for it to come out on DVD. I hadn't seen season 4 yet.

Posted by: Kenny at January 16, 2006 12:27 PM

"SKANK"! I almost did the diet coke outta the nose thing! :)
Contests. I'm not good at them. I'm gonna say MITTENS. Because you obviously need them while standing pajama clad taking sky pics for ME! :)
Much obliged by the way. I'm sure I am not a skank winner. how many orange chibis do you have, anyway??
xo

Posted by: sandy at January 16, 2006 12:30 PM

I think it is Rogue! Don't know why but I think it is...I am probably just clueless this Monday morning

Posted by: Susanne at January 16, 2006 12:31 PM

I say Hourglass sweater too! But others have already guessed that one, poo. Note to self: check Cara's blog more frequently.

Posted by: mimsie at January 16, 2006 12:39 PM

I'm pretty sure you didn't tell me.

I'm not sure of the pattern but I'm pretty sure that's denim....

Posted by: Bookish Wendy at January 16, 2006 12:43 PM

I LOVE 24!!!! I only began watching last year but am definitely an addict. Can't wait for the 2 hour show tonight!

Traci

Posted by: Traci at January 16, 2006 01:14 PM

looks to me like the Hourglass sweater, something I've been meaning to knit for like....a bazillion years.

Posted by: Renata at January 16, 2006 01:21 PM

Baby sweater - and I'll guess it is for X ;)

Posted by: may at January 16, 2006 01:24 PM

those look like sleeves to me!

Posted by: lauren at January 16, 2006 01:53 PM

packet sweater for child from LMKG. :)

Posted by: kate at January 16, 2006 02:32 PM

My husband and I watch 24 together, thank heavens, because I'd probably claw the couch if I had to watch it without a hand to hold and a person to say "Oh my GOD!!" to. Last night rocked, utterly and completely rocked. I love Action! Chloe, and I think I'm going to like Martha too.

Are you knitting a stocking cap? It would be a good transition from socks......

Posted by: melanie at January 16, 2006 02:49 PM

Your 24 post was great, one of the few knitting blog posts I've ever read outloud to my husband! We have friends we've watched 24 with for seasons. Last night was great and we can't wait for tonight!

As for what you are knitting, I think it's a baby sweater out of Rowan 4-ply Soft. Is it Sweeten from Rowan Babies, or if not it's something from Rowan Juniors but I don't have the book handy to check it out!

Off to cast on for my FIRST JAYWALKER EVER!

Posted by: Johanna at January 16, 2006 02:50 PM

I'm rooting for Trek to win! (I also think it's the Short Row Pullover) Can't wait to see it :)

Posted by: Kristina at January 16, 2006 03:12 PM

Swatching for CIT, maybe, with your VY--oh please, let that be it!

24 sucked me in last night, too! 2nd 2 hours on tonight, right?

Yikes, I've got SnB at 7pm!!! I can't cut out early, can I? I don't want to but, but, 24 is on! What will I do?

Posted by: Jen at January 16, 2006 03:39 PM

How about Rosarie, from Virtual Yarns?

Posted by: Annie at January 16, 2006 04:44 PM

I'll guess it's Glampyre's One Skein Wonder... perhaps with extended sleeves?

Posted by: Liz at January 16, 2006 05:28 PM

I, too, cannot believe it's not a jaywalker sock. But maybe it's Raspy from Rowan Denim People?

Posted by: Gina at January 16, 2006 05:54 PM

I'm going with baby blanket ... and I'll be watching 24 tonight!

Posted by: Anne at January 16, 2006 06:39 PM

I agree with your soap opera/violence comment. My husband and I waited for 24 to start also. The problem with it is that it sucks me right in and I get very little knitting done while it is on! Oh, well. 18 minutes until it starts tonight.

Posted by: Sandy at January 16, 2006 07:43 PM

We are 24 fans in this household as well. Except I like buying the whole series and watching it in marathon sessions. No commercials and speed forward through the recaps. We are well into season 4 now. I am happy to hear that I have something to look forward to in season 5. I think Tony is the guy too! What happened to Michelle? She isn't in Season 4 so far. Jack is okay. I have liked Alias even better, I love Vaughn!

Posted by: gina L at January 16, 2006 08:47 PM

I think it's a Debbie Bliss baby sweater in her denim yarn.

Posted by: Wendi at January 16, 2006 09:58 PM

The Ballerina Sweater from Debbie Bliss's Quick Knits for Baby???

Posted by: Gwyn at January 16, 2006 10:34 PM

I'm not guessing.

But I will say my sweetie and I get snuggly with The Sopranos for the same reason (though I kinda like the violent stuff too). I confess to never watching 24--but have the DVDs in queue with Zip.ca.

Posted by: Stepha at January 17, 2006 09:15 AM

Okay - just a random guess, but Debbie Bliss's Basic Raglan sweater.

Posted by: ashley at January 17, 2006 09:41 AM

I think it's the baby sweater from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. But seriously, no Jaywalkers? What?!?!?!?!

Posted by: shannon at January 17, 2006 11:14 AM

is it a sample for the perfect sweater from masondixonknitting.com?

Posted by: elaine at January 17, 2006 12:53 PM

is it a swatch for your crossed in translation??

I didnt think so, maybe Pippa like suggested above otherwise no clue...

Posted by: stinkerbell at January 17, 2006 01:47 PM

I have no idea what you're knitting, but I'm all over the 24 thing!!! Geez...this might be the best season ever!! I decided I can't come in to work on Tuesdays due to lack of sleep from excess '24' induced adrenaline!! Mercy!

Posted by: Gail at January 17, 2006 06:46 PM

I'm still dizzy from 24, what did you think of the four hours so far? It's so INSANE!
