I've ruined Junior Caramels forever....

Sigh. The love affair is over and it's all my fault. Let me announce to friend and foe alike: I AM AN ASS. That's about as plain as I can state it.

So I was down at my sister's helping out - she has a big project to finish up which is kind of impossible with an eleven month old who can now climb the stairs. On Monday, when all three kids were home, she got some kind of stomach virus. It lasted a day - literally - but she felt like crap and I tried to help as best I could. I feel like I didn't do enough though. The big(ger) kids went to school Tuesday and Wednesday and I was on baby patrol. Tuesday night I started to feel like I was getting a cold - scratchy throat, start of a runny nose - Wednesday I felt kind of crappy all day and I went home Wednesday night. I started to feel nauseated five minutes before we left for the train station - but then it went away on the train so I thought I was okay. G and I stopped at the grocery store on the way home and bought all kinds of stuff completely inappropriate for a stomach virus. Get home, find out Max threw up as soon as my sister got the kids in the door - his first time since a big kid. Completely freaked himself out. I'm still feeling okay stomach wise so I don't eat any dinner but proceed to finish the box of Junior Caramels I left on my nightstand before I left.

Do I need to go on? Really?

At about 3AM we're talking PuKeFeSt 2006. There is nothing, I repeat NOTHING, I hate more than throwing up. Control issues? Check. Throwing up equals complete loss of control? Check. Junior Caramels? Yeah. It will be a long, long, LONG time before I eat any more of those.

I'm not puking anymore, but I'm having really awful stomach pains that I can't seem to make go away. G stayed home with me this morning, but he's about to leave for the office, so I'm on my own. I hate being sick. If you sent an email and I didn't get back to you, I'm so sorry. I've been computer-less for the week and now I don't even feel like looking at the computer let alone reading anything on it. I hope you're all feeling excellent. My advice for the day - if there's any chance you might be sick - stay far away from your favorite candy. Learn from my mistakes.
Thanks.
L, C

Hope you feel better soon. There's nothing worse than throwing up!

Oh ... sorry to read that you're sick. March is a dangerous month ... I always get sick in Marhc. Hope you'll feel better soon.

Posted by: Agnes at March 9, 2006 01:08 PM

SOunds awful. I feel the same way about throwing up. Just to think about it...ack!
Hope you feel better soon.

Posted by: isel at March 9, 2006 01:08 PM

Yipes, that's the worst. All week long with the dread sinus infection I've said at least it wasn't stomach related. If you haven't got any, get some Emetrol, it's the best for stomach stuff. Hard to find but well worth it. Stuff that I used to eat 20 years ago when I was pregnant with my first and very very sick for 3 months- yep, still can't eat that stuff. I hope you feel better VERY soon!

Posted by: Julie at March 9, 2006 01:09 PM

Oh man, I, too, fear puking..........hope you feel better soon.....have some 7up..

Posted by: christine at March 9, 2006 01:14 PM

My sympathies. The aversion therapy is pretty effective. I recently got violently ill during Christmas dinner, luckily before I had eaten any of it, so I can still eat all that stuff.

Posted by: Lucia at March 9, 2006 01:17 PM

Oh dear. I hope you feel better soon. Throwing up is the worst. Well, let me ammend that. I don't mind the throwing up bit as one tends to feel a little better afterwards, it's the nausea that's the worst.

Posted by: Jennifer at March 9, 2006 01:17 PM

oh dear...that is just awful.
I personally can't think of anything worse than that sort of illness.
hang in there and ride it out..it will be over before you know it.

Posted by: Carla at March 9, 2006 01:23 PM

Feel better!! Nausea and upchucking are two of the worst things on the planet - you have my deepest sympathies!

Posted by: jillian at March 9, 2006 01:27 PM

Aww. Sorry you barfed. You'll be well again. And one day you'll love your caramels again. I promise. :)

Posted by: Laura at March 9, 2006 01:39 PM

Oh, man, that sucks. So sorry that happened. And I can relate to your aversion to Junior Caramels now, too. A similar thing happened to me and I couldn't eat fried clams for about 15 years.

Posted by: Carole at March 9, 2006 02:00 PM

I have the same puke-issues. Sorry to hear you're sick :o(

I haven't been able to face Corona since 1999. I'm hoping I'll someday again become the 'cheap date' my SO once knew ;o)

Posted by: JessaLu at March 9, 2006 02:01 PM

What a way to give up your favorite candies. Hope you get feeling better quickly so the weekend is more fun with the kiddies.

Posted by: margene at March 9, 2006 02:05 PM

It's been going around my house too--but fortunately not me. Yet.

My total and complete sympathy. Something I've learned from the chemo front: if you can find something that smells pleasant it seems to help a lot. The only problem is that in trying to find something that aleviates the nausea, you find a lot that only makes it worse!

Hope you get better soon.

Posted by: Diane at March 9, 2006 02:06 PM

poor you!! crackers and ginger ale

Posted by: ann at March 9, 2006 02:12 PM

Aw, hope you feel better soon! The only things I've ever ruined for myself in that way were Pepto Bismol and French Onion Soup -- I kinda miss the soup (it's been 21 years, and there actually wasn't any puking involved but the 1st trimester nausea was enough), but the Pepto's no big loss. ; ) ((Hugs))

Posted by: Vicki at March 9, 2006 02:15 PM

Oh, I'm so sorry. I hate being sick (although if it would get me out of work this week, I'd be interested in discussing it). Take it easy and watch mindless television while laying as still as possible on the couch while covered with your favorite blanket.

Posted by: Stephanie at March 9, 2006 02:34 PM

ugh, being pukey is the WORST. i'm so sorry you're feeling icky! but hey, distract yourself - the list of vendors for mdsw is up!

Posted by: anne at March 9, 2006 02:43 PM

Several years ago, I came home from my first yoga class and got violently ill. I had food poisoning for 3 days. And I've never been back to yoga.

Posted by: amy! at March 9, 2006 02:51 PM

Hope you feel better soon, before you read this. I still can't eat Arbys Beef'n'Cheddar and it has been over 10 years.

Posted by: Paula at March 9, 2006 02:59 PM

Oh, I feel for you... I had a similar experience with marzipan in France, and I can't even look at the stuff now.

Posted by: Anne at March 9, 2006 03:26 PM

Oh no! I swear this year has been Germfest 2006. The last weekend I worked at the store this woman was coughing all over everything and when she left I got the Purell out and anti-bacterialed everything. Is that a verb?

Feel better chica.

Posted by: Scout at March 9, 2006 03:39 PM

I sympathize--I was there two weeks ago. Feel better!!

Posted by: --Deb at March 9, 2006 03:49 PM

The stomach bug hit our house too. All three kids had and I'm just getting over it. I hope you feel better soon!

Posted by: Kelly at March 9, 2006 03:57 PM

I hope you feel better soon. Sorry to hear about the caramels.

Posted by: Angelia at March 9, 2006 04:01 PM

I think it's okay about the Junior Caramels. There are so many caramels in this world, it's time to move on and move up from the JCs.

Feel better soon.

Posted by: colleen at March 9, 2006 04:04 PM

Never mind ginger ale: just mainline the ginger. Crystallized or not, as you prefer.

Posted by: Lucia at March 9, 2006 04:18 PM

ohhhh I am the SAME way about throwing up. I seriously fear it intensely.
I hope the stomach pains go away soon!!

Posted by: carole at March 9, 2006 04:29 PM

Oh, you poor thing! I know how you feel ... except for me it was honey mustard salad dressing. Never touched the stuff again ...

Posted by: Danielle at March 9, 2006 04:32 PM

My ex is in the Boston area and got the same thing, then everybody in his apartment got it. You'll feel like a million bucks in a day. Feel better.

Posted by: KathyB at March 9, 2006 04:43 PM

I did that once with ribs. Couldn't eat them for literally years!

What's weird about this is how these virus' travel. You are on the east coast, I am in Oklahoma, but the stomach virus is just rampant out here as well.

Be well soon.

Posted by: Leah at March 9, 2006 04:48 PM

This is tragic. The sickness will pass but the aversion is forever. Ask me about 1968: Mom's Pinochle Group, Little Kay Eats All the Leftover Mints and All the Leftover Cashews. Do you know ANYBODY who doesn't like cashews? Now you do. xoKay

Posted by: Kay at March 9, 2006 05:14 PM

ugggggggggg I totally know what you mean about throwing up being the worst thing ever I totally agree! Here's to you feeling better and having a good nights sleep tonight!

Posted by: Kelly at March 9, 2006 06:25 PM

Two words: Curly Fries. Nuff said. Feel better!

Posted by: KT at March 9, 2006 06:36 PM

Oh, I had something similar last month. Take it easy and I hope you feel better soon!

Posted by: Chris at March 9, 2006 06:54 PM

I cry when I throw up. It completely baffles my husband.

I'm astonished I can still eat sushi.

Feel better soon, sweetie :-)

Posted by: Lee Ann at March 9, 2006 07:50 PM

Dude. Damn.

Posted by: rock chick at March 9, 2006 08:09 PM

I feel awful for you. The only time I really freak when my kids are sick is if it is a stomach thing because I know that I am doomed to get it since I care for them.

Feel better. Rest and sip some ginger ale. Hugs :O)

Posted by: amanda at March 9, 2006 09:09 PM

Hope you feel better soon! plenty of rest and some ginger tea.

Posted by: eyeleen at March 9, 2006 09:15 PM

Ooooh, baby! Three things: 1. I hope you are feeling better really quickly. Puke is yucky. 2. You will eat the JCs again. I have experience. It may be years, but you will eat them. 3. Don't breathe on me.

I was in NYC last weekend. Driving away I was wondering if I could see your high rise across the way. It could have been the wrong place or the wrong way. I am geographically challenged when it comes to NYC/NJ and all of that. Like the upper west side. I always feel like I am headed somewhere else as I walk there. And when I head south on Broadway, I feel like I should end up somewhere, but not where I do. Where do I think I should end up? I have no effing idea. Just not where I do. Geographically challenged in a big way.

Posted by: Teresa C at March 9, 2006 10:02 PM

Can I just tell you that i had a similar experience with fritos? I couldn't eat them for YEARS!!! Still today, almost 20 years later, it's still hard for me to stand even the smell of fritos.

Feel better soon!

Posted by: angela at March 9, 2006 10:02 PM

Dude. That is one sad-ass story.

Junior Caramels, RIP.

Posted by: claudia at March 9, 2006 10:24 PM

Oh I really hope you're feeling better soon. I'm sending hugs from Germany-I hope they work. :)

Posted by: Kimberly at March 10, 2006 01:40 AM

I'm totally there with the throwing up thing. I don't care if I will feel better afterward, I'd rather keep it in and deal with the pain then to puke. Regardless, I will heed your advice and in return send you good vibes to speed your recovery. :D

Posted by: Christie at March 10, 2006 01:40 AM

i'm with you. throwing up is enough to put me off eating something for ages.

i hope you feel better soon

Posted by: jacqueline at March 10, 2006 03:44 AM

Feel better, Cara. I've had a similar experience with milk duds. It's been years...still can't eat them. By the way, you are a great sister! Baby yourself today. You deserve it.

Posted by: Annie at March 10, 2006 06:18 AM

Ugh, ugh, and triple ugh.

Feel better soon...

xoxo,
E

Posted by: elisa at March 10, 2006 08:39 AM

Oh no. I hope you feel better soon. A couple of weeks ago I was sick ... I threw up every 15 minutes or so for about 20 hours. Not pretty. Anyway, like I said, feel better soon. :)

Posted by: Samantha at March 10, 2006 09:22 AM

We've had flu down here all week too. Must be going around the northeast. Hope you feel better soon.

Go look at some STR and you will feel happier if not healthier.

Posted by: trek at March 10, 2006 10:13 AM

Reminds me of an unfortunate event in my own past involving Grasshopper cookies.

Haven't had one in 17 years.

Posted by: meg at March 10, 2006 10:36 AM

Oh no! Barfking it truly the worst...the worst!!!! I hope you fell back to normal soon. Just wait awhile and then give caramels another chance.

PS You are not and ass :)

Posted by: Anne Marie at March 10, 2006 10:46 AM

Sorry to hear you're sick, Cara! Get better soon!

Posted by: may at March 10, 2006 11:01 AM

you poor thing...you are soo not an ass, you are an angel for helping your sister...have a wonderful weekend, because I'm hopeful you are feeling much better by now. :)

Posted by: michele at March 10, 2006 12:01 PM

EWWWWWWWWWW! :sprays monitor with lysol: I hope you feel better soon. I'll never be able to enjoy the flavor of coconut again due to some over indulging of pina coladas back oh about 18 yrs ago. Hope yours doesn't last that long.
