Get Yer Own!
Since I've got the luxury of hanging with the MDK girls FOUR nights in a row, and I know some of you won't have that priviledge, I'm giving away a TWO SIGNED copy COPIES of their TOME!

In order to win, leave me a comment stating your most favorite thing MASON and your most favorite thing DIXON. For instance, mint juleps and a heaping bowl of clam chowder. Or reading Moby Dick while listening to Patsy Cline. Opposites attract, but judging from the girls I hung with last night, they also compliment very nicely. GO TO IT! Comments will close Thursday, 11:59 PM. Winner picked at random. Please enter only once. There may be yarn in the mix as well. ;-)

Mason: It's cold enough to actually WEAR the sweaters you knit.
Dixon: We talk sweeter (no offense). The first time I ever went up north, I stopped in a rest area, and heard a Mommy hurrying her little girl in the bathroom. It sounded so harsh. When we rush our children with our drawl, it sounds sweet.
I do have to admit that I don't like the predjudice that northerners have when you go up. Many assume that you're not very smart because of the southern accent. (Kinda like equating us all to Gomer Pyle.)

I love visiting the North - the fast pace, the "call it like it is" people, the shopping, the shows, the sports, and the four full seasons that northerners get to experience; but I love living in the South - knowing I'll never have to shovel snow, that I have to specify "sweet or unsweet" when I order tea, that often city names are pronounced much, much differently than they look (Luhvuhle) and that you can almost always count on a smile or a hello when passing people on the street.

I was born in Massachusetts and lived most of my adult life south of the Mason-Dixon line so I know a bit of both.
I love fire fly summer nights sipping sweet tea from the lawn (for the southerner in me) and family clam bakes (mom's clam chowda', clam cakes, steamers, sweet corn, polished off with slabs of watermelon and seed spitting contests)for the northern side.
Then, too, there is early spring in the south with the glorious flowering trees and white christmases in the north.

Biscuits and gravy for breakfast on a real autumn morning, with leaves changing and everything (actually, this combination is pretty common in the south half of Illinois, where I grew up - sort of the best of both worlds)
