This pattern has interested me also and I absolutely love the colors you chose. You really have an excellent eye for color - you'd be a great quilter.

Dare I ask - did you have all those in your stash?? I'm jealous either way!

Posted by: Lisa at May 11, 2006 08:59 AM

Loverly Cara. The yarn certainly does rock.

Posted by: delia at May 11, 2006 08:59 AM

Life is quite simply not at all fair.

It'll be gorgeous :)

Posted by: Mags at May 11, 2006 09:13 AM

JFC, woman. I won't even say it. Oh, all right, I will. This is not a word I use often: Jealous. (hey, it's another "j" word.) :)

Posted by: Norma at May 11, 2006 09:13 AM

Wow. The colors are stunning, as are the photos. I will be very interested to see how this project progresses. It may very well be the most beautiful log cabin blanket ever.

Posted by: Rachel at May 11, 2006 09:17 AM

WOW! First you knit the most beautiful shawl in the world and have everyone drooling. Now a to die for log cabin afghan. Norma isn't the only one who's jealous;)

Posted by: Karen at May 11, 2006 09:18 AM

Just beautiful! I especially love those yummy greens. Can't wait to watch the progress on this one!

Posted by: natalie at May 11, 2006 09:18 AM

I know you're a professional photographer so I shouldn't be surprised at the beauty of you photos. Can I be in awe, though? The colors, the textures, you have captured it all fantastically!

Posted by: Carole at May 11, 2006 09:21 AM

Wonderful colors! This will be a beautiful project :o)

Posted by: amanda at May 11, 2006 09:23 AM

That is going to be fabulous, you know!

Posted by: Rosemary - Quietish at May 11, 2006 09:23 AM

OMG - that's going to be gorgeous and I love the colors you've chosen. Simply divine! :)

Posted by: elisa at May 11, 2006 09:25 AM

Beautiful lighting and layout. Out of curiousity, where did you procure the STR heavyweight?

Posted by: Karen B. at May 11, 2006 09:25 AM

is that for me? please pretty please say it's for me! ;-)

the colours are amazing. i absolutely need to get my hand on some of that semisolid str.

Posted by: kris at May 11, 2006 09:27 AM

Oh, this one's going to be luscious!

Posted by: Jan at May 11, 2006 09:28 AM

Oh yeah!!! Gorgeous colors -- ooooh, it's going to be such a yummy blanket, Cara! Do you like working it? Do you have an overally plan? I've only made one or two squares with crap yarn, but I loved the, um, process.

Posted by: Vicki at May 11, 2006 09:29 AM

I'm drooling over here! I can't wait to see more.

Posted by: Kristina at May 11, 2006 09:32 AM

And I thought I would avoid the temptation of knitting a log cabin afghan. Clearly yours will not help me - it's gorgeous. Must. Knit.

Posted by: Kate at May 11, 2006 09:33 AM

Stunning. Absolutely stunning. The variation within the colors gives the block a homey, already worn-in vintagey feeling. Your blanket is going to radiate warmth, the recipient is very lucky!

Posted by: Jenna at May 11, 2006 09:43 AM

Skrumpshus. Just delicious. I can't wait to see how you're going to do your log cabinning (that can't possibly be a word).

Fantastic. Lush. Divine. Freakin awesome.

Posted by: Ann at May 11, 2006 09:43 AM

Oh, Cara, you evil temptress...

What gauge are you getting on the heavy str and 5's in garter?

My color wheel is just wizzing around, making all kinds of juicy combos! Need.to.knit.this.

Posted by: kim at May 11, 2006 10:00 AM

Simply amazing! I have to get my hands on some of that STR yarn--it was sold out before I even got to the MSWF. I can't wait to see your progress on this project.

Posted by: Diane at May 11, 2006 10:02 AM

Yer killin' me. Love the shading of the colors.

Hope you're bringing it to town. xox Kay

Posted by: Kay at May 11, 2006 10:20 AM

Those colors are unbelievable. The afghan will be too, I haven't the least doubt.

Posted by: Lucia at May 11, 2006 10:20 AM

My first thought was that I wanted to frame the last picture and put it near my yarn. Very inspiring!

Posted by: wenders at May 11, 2006 10:28 AM

Gorgeous, gorgeous yarn.
*drooling*
Your corners on the log cabin look so sharp and perfect!

Posted by: Anne Marie at May 11, 2006 10:29 AM

I just have to have some of that yarn. Stunning. I missed it at MD.

Posted by: Joan Hamer at May 11, 2006 10:36 AM

I love this! Please post about it everyday--I seriously want to see every new stitch of color, AS IT HAPPENS!

Posted by: Melanie at May 11, 2006 10:40 AM

When, oh when, will Blue Moon's new website be up so we can see ALL the colorways? Are the ones you show all they have in the heavy weight? Is it like a dk or worsted? This yarn is waaaay too addicting for me!

Posted by: Michele at May 11, 2006 10:42 AM

A rockin' rainbow!

Posted by: Stacey at May 11, 2006 10:48 AM

Stunning! And oh, so tempting... I'm going to enjoy watching this project progress. :)

Posted by: Kris at May 11, 2006 10:55 AM

Well damn. You just had to go and start one of those super yummy log cabin blankets didn't you. And in such yummy colors. I'm still trying to recover from the ombre blanket, but MDK make a blanket so tempting. I really can't wait to see how this develops because so far - it's fabulous.

Posted by: Stephanie at May 11, 2006 10:56 AM

Now I need to knit a blanket! OMG, the colors are fabulous, just fabulous! Even the greens are fabulous!

Posted by: margene at May 11, 2006 11:03 AM

Colors, gorgeous. But I'm am sooooo impressed with the even quality of your stitches. It makes the square even more squarish. :-) I take it that it is unblocked as I see your needle still in. Absolutely stunning. I just hope mine is as gorgeous *after* it is blocked!

Posted by: mary at May 11, 2006 11:09 AM

Purty colors, I like the slight variegated look. Man, I'm jealous of your lighting. :)

Posted by: Monica at May 11, 2006 11:17 AM

Oh my goodness, it's gorgeous. I'm looking forward to seeing it done. (Not putting any pressure on you, just.. It's going to be beautiful.)

Posted by: Cordelia at May 11, 2006 11:20 AM

Oh Man! Will you stop tempting me to steal from the tuition?

Posted by: Teresa C at May 11, 2006 11:25 AM

Mmmmm . . . love the colors!

Posted by: --Deb at May 11, 2006 11:49 AM

that's really cool looking. aren't log cabin squares addictive? are you making multiple squares or just building from the center with all of the colors?

Posted by: maryse at May 11, 2006 11:53 AM

Gorgeous. This pattern was sort of calling out to me, but with your photos it's more of a shriek. Someday would you post a photo of the back of it? I've yet to see one and I'm curious ..

Posted by: kathy in juneau at May 11, 2006 12:02 PM

Is it my imagination, or is this a departure from the norm for you? I seriously checked to see if I was on the right blog!
'Course, I did a miserable job on the quiz yesterday, so let's just say that I don't know much;-)

Posted by: Wendi at May 11, 2006 12:03 PM

Oh Cara, those are beautiful colors and the blanket looks gorgeous. I can't wait to get some Socks that Rock and for the coming pictures.

Posted by: Jenna at May 11, 2006 12:10 PM

Oh wowie, wow, wow! Those greens are wonderful together! :-)

Posted by: Beth S. at May 11, 2006 12:13 PM

Lovely. I'd be tempted to have one log in a variegated... How many squares, and thus what finished size is your goal?

Posted by: Sylvia at May 11, 2006 12:19 PM

I stopped breathing for a moment. Gorgeous. Thanks for the inspiration.

Posted by: Anita at May 11, 2006 12:20 PM

Mmm, great color sense. Am I seeing three in each tone? What is your rule here?

Posted by: colleen at May 11, 2006 12:24 PM

The colors are gorgeous! I love the way the greens change in your log cabin blanket!

Posted by: Evelyn at May 11, 2006 12:50 PM

Geez, Cara. I just emailed Tina about getting me some STR heavyweight yesterday for a baby blanket. I was gonna do the spiral again, but now I'm seeing Lincoln Logs everywhere I look!

I am in love with those colors...in.love. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Posted by: Erin at May 11, 2006 01:51 PM

I love your squares! The colors, the texture, I just want to curl up in that teeny square! If you don't mind, how did you modify the pattern? I am new to knitting, and I am waiting for my copy to arrive (grad present) I looked at the pattern at my friend's, but I can't figure out how to get your look!!

Beautiful work! I love reading your blog, you provide wonderous inpiration!

Is it sick that I am almost wishing to be put on bed rest so I would have time to follow your lead? I so wanted to knit this baby a blanket and I have so been lusting after the log cabins that have been cropping up. I am insanely jealous.
