It's A...

HUMAN!

Exactly what we wanted! Whew! We were worried there for a minute or two.

The ultrasound was really long, and honestly painful. The baby was VERY uncooperative apparently. Wouldn't stop moving around and then it would hide itself and more than half of the ultrasound I was on my side with my back to the tech and the doctor so they could see what needed to be seen. Finally they got all the measurements they needed (I'm telling you my belly will be bruised tomorrow) and declared our baby PERFECT! (At least as far as the ultrasound goes.)

We didn't bring a video tape (I couldn't find one this morning) but in the end, the ultrasound was so long and they had so much trouble that Georgie started to read the paper. Every now and then I'd tell him to check things out (my head was behind the screen, as I thought it would be) and he'd look and then get scared he was going to see something he didn't want to see (like some kind of gender identification) and look away. I was like, honey, that's the umbilical cord.

To top the day off: WE FINALLY GOT SPRINGSTEEN TICKETS!
The baby WILL be hearing The Boss in utero. We're going to have a nice weekend in DC and catch the show on the 12th. I can't wait. A little bit of relaxing. A little bit of Bruce. And a whole lot of my favorite boy and my other favorite boy. Or maybe my favorite girl. ;-)

Here's another picture. A foot. I'm bruised on the outside AND inside. YAY BABY!

PS - I've had some questions about Spin Out prizes. I have NOT awarded them yet. It looks like I'll be doing that right before Thanksgiving. My elves will be coming to help and hopefully I'll have a break in the workload before then to post the rest of the prizes that I haven't posted yet. I'm terribly sorry for the delay. I apologize to all the people who donated prizes and all the people who bought raffle tickets. THE PRIZES WILL BE GOING OUT! I promise. Thank you all for being so patient! I really appreciate it!

Oh man, that foot is the cutest thing ever!

Posted by: Bertha at November 6, 2007 04:15 PM

So glad to hear that the baby is PERFECT! Technology is really something, isn't it? That first picture really DOES look like a human!! Can't quite make out the foot yet...I'll keep at it! I can remember when I was pregnant and my baby kept kicking me on one side, and as I remember it, ONE SIDE ONLY!! Can't wait to find out meet her?? Him?? Cynthia

Posted by: Alotta.knittin at November 6, 2007 04:18 PM

Oh HI, beautiful baby!!

Posted by: margene at November 6, 2007 04:29 PM

Enjoy the concert! I went to see Sting when I was nine months pregnant with my first kid. Don't be surprised when it starts kicking and dancing to the music too. He was dancing more than I was. You'll love it.

Posted by: Shea at November 6, 2007 04:34 PM

cute cute baby!

Thanks for the prize update. Please don't fret too much about it. It is hard to manage your workload when pregnant, and, as you've mentioned, it is a busy season for you. The prizes are a bonus; they're fun, but it was never about the prizes, right? We can be patient. ;)

Posted by: Natasha at November 6, 2007 05:05 PM

Yay human! THat is so cool. Ultrasounds are way more advanced now than they used to be, holy cow!

Posted by: Amber at November 6, 2007 05:20 PM

Bah, prizes can wait. You're making a person! (Wow...dude, you're making a PERSON. Someone that will walk and talk and dance and play and laugh and cry and contribute to society and I'm making myself all teary-eyed so I'll stop now.) But yeah, the ultrasound is such a cool process, and yet rather less glamorous than they make it look on TV, as with most things pregnancy-related. And the foot! I want to pinch the little toes! Hee!

*happysigh* How exciting.

Posted by: alyson at November 6, 2007 05:33 PM

Yay! I'm so glad you have a happy and healthy human!!!
And DC!!!! I'm free all weekend, so we have to hang out! :)

Posted by: Sarah at November 6, 2007 05:46 PM

Yay!! Glad to hear bub is shaping up well ;-) My husband used to respond like that when folks asked him what we were having, it was always amusing to see the shocked looks on their faces. Buy he's always been a stirrer ;-)

Congrats on getting the Springsteen tickets, be prepared for bubba to be bopping along to the music with you both.

And don't stress about the prizes ... as others have said, you're making a PERSON - everything else pales in comparison.

Posted by: Alison at November 6, 2007 05:55 PM

Yay, it's a baby! On one of the sweaters I knitted before I was even pregnant, I duplicate-stitched the word "baby" because I was pretty sure I'd eventually get that, at least. :)

Posted by: Sarah at November 6, 2007 05:55 PM

wooohooo! so glad you are feeling better too.

Posted by: kathleen at November 6, 2007 05:58 PM

Awwwwwwwww yay! for human baby. :)

Posted by: Jennie at November 6, 2007 06:04 PM

Very cool.

Posted by: Jennifer at November 6, 2007 06:10 PM

What a GREAT profile!!! Noah and Hannah love looking at the sonogram pics of them in their respective baby books. What an amazing thing. Mazel tov on that beautiful, perfect baby, and also on getting Springsteen tickets! I'm sorry I couldn't help you on that front. I'll be quite jealous if you get to hear "Thunder Road." xoxo!

Posted by: regina at November 6, 2007 06:18 PM

Those are the most beautiful pictures I've seen on your blog - of course you take great photos - but you MADE that one! Congratulations.

Posted by: Amy at November 6, 2007 06:22 PM

What a perfectly beautiful human!

Posted by: Angie at November 6, 2007 06:30 PM

I think it's got your nose ;-)

Posted by: TheAmpuT at November 6, 2007 06:31 PM

Oh what a beautiful baby! I love the profile shot, such a cute nose already!

Posted by: Lani at November 6, 2007 06:37 PM

Congrats! I hear the human babies are the best. And yay, you'll be in DC!

Posted by: RandomRanter at November 6, 2007 07:11 PM

Oh how cute!!! You'll get a kick out of this one...you say your "little human" is being uncooperative? My brother & SIL were trying to find out what they were having (it took 2 sonograms)...my niece flipped them off! They have the picture to prove it!

Posted by: Robin in VA at November 6, 2007 07:13 PM

Oh my gosh! I could see the foot before i saw the arrow! I can never tell what is going on in ultrasounds..your baby is super-photogenic! And absolutely perfect, naturally..

Posted by: Betsy at November 6, 2007 07:25 PM

Such a cute little foot -- I love baby fingers and toes!

Posted by: Meg at November 6, 2007 08:14 PM

Human? Excellent! Frankly, that's my hope too when we start our family. Ten fingers and ten toes would be the icing on the cake.

Posted by: RobynR at November 6, 2007 08:30 PM

So Amazing! I have profile ultrasound shots of both our boys and they still(!) have the same profile at ages almost 5 and almost 7. That foot is freakin awesome.

Posted by: KT at November 6, 2007 08:47 PM

Congratulations on your HUMAN! Aren't the ultrasounds the best? It's nice to have that little glimpse inside to see that everything is developing. I can't imagine living in the time before ultrasounds...

Posted by: biglug at November 6, 2007 08:51 PM

AWWW... YOUR BABY IS JUST PERFECT!!!

Posted by: Courtney at November 6, 2007 08:55 PM

Are you sure it's a human? It kind of looks like a teapot to me in the top photo. LOVE YOU!!!!

Posted by: Norma at November 6, 2007 09:04 PM

So... If it's a boy, are you going to name him Bruce?? :^) Have Fun at the concert.

Posted by: Kyle at November 6, 2007 09:13 PM

It is great to hear you sounding better! I know it is a relief to find out it's not an alien or a litter of kittens.

Posted by: Emily at November 6, 2007 09:13 PM

Love Georgie reading the paper!
That's one cutiepatutie!

Posted by: flair at November 6, 2007 09:17 PM

Congrats on the human ;-) I'm hoping for one myself. I'm a sucker for the baby head profile - s/he is beautiful/handsome/perfect!

Posted by: Ellie at November 6, 2007 09:49 PM

so fun! what a cute tubby little tummy it has in that top photo! what a miracle!!!! babies are such a gift!

Posted by: Jody at November 6, 2007 10:00 PM

The baby is beautiful (of course), and clearly human (what a relief). Don't beat yourself up over the prizes - you've got a lot going on! We'll wait. :)

Posted by: Abby at November 6, 2007 10:28 PM

I love how they label the sonogram pictures - I noticed that when my friend was pregnant with my goddaughter. "What the hell is this? Oh, wait, it says 'foot'. Gotcha. Yeah, that looks like a foot."

My friend's baby was also very touchy about being photographed in utero - she was a very stubborn little fetus. And then she was born and we realized that sometimes personality traits displayed in the womb carry over: Talk to the hand (Awful picture of my boyfriend, but the child? She still doesn't like the paparazzi.)

Posted by: Julie at November 6, 2007 11:12 PM

Oh that foot is soooooo cute!
Woo hoo on the Bruce tickets! I knew you'd do it somehow.

Posted by: Kirsten at November 6, 2007 11:38 PM

what amazing photos - they have gotten so much clearer in 25 years.... amazing.
I am so happy for you, it made me get this huge lump in my throat, remembering my first born -
you are in for so much joy... you have no idea.
congrats all around.

Posted by: Teyani at November 6, 2007 11:58 PM

Whew! It would have been an awkward moment in the blogiverse had you announced you were having a Muppet baby. (And it can be SO hard to determine the gender on those things! ;) )

Glad the bambino was pronounced perfect & you will have help with the Spin-Out stuff. It's too much for one (or two, in your case, but seriously, the hands are still on the inside so the baby's only really good for eating the snacks.)

Posted by: PlazaJen at November 7, 2007 12:34 AM

I love the tiny sono baby parts. I remember looking at mine and seeing that the poor thing would have my nose. I think the worst part was having to drink the quart of water and then watch the baby using my bladder as a trampoline and realizing why I felt about to explode all the time . . . she still likes to bounce, hmmm.

My friend/connection just called to say we have tickets to that same show. I haven't been to see Springsteen since Dec 1980, so if you see them carrying someone out on a stretcher, that would be me. Anyway, enjoy.

I hope ultrasound pictures will never cease to amaze me. How cool is that?!

Congratulations on its being a perfect specimen, and I hope it appreciates the Springsteen tickets!

Posted by: emmms at November 7, 2007 06:29 AM

Isn't it just amazing??

Posted by: kimberly at November 7, 2007 07:18 AM

Congrats on a perfect human. I hope he/she grows up to appreciate Springsteen. Kids typically don't like the music their parents like.

Posted by: Wanda in AR at November 7, 2007 08:14 AM

Oh man I had completely forgotten about the U/S pain! But that baby is beautiful!!! And such a cute little foot!!

Posted by: Deana at November 7, 2007 08:30 AM

What a perfect little human! Hey - I've got 8 embroyos! You were right, the shots are totally fine! And I started the PIO shots last night, also, no biggie. Transfer will be tomorrow, most likely.

Posted by: Cece at November 7, 2007 08:55 AM

So cute! So glad your baby is human. :-)

Posted by: Kim at November 7, 2007 09:07 AM

What a beautiful and perfect little baby you've got cookin' in there. :)

Posted by: Samantha at November 7, 2007 09:41 AM

Yay for babies! I love the little footie. My doctor didn't believe in doing sonograms unless she suspected something might be wrong (this was 20 years ago), so I never got to see my kid before she was born. It's just so cool.

And no worries about prizes from this end. Of course, I can say that knowing that I never win anything anyway.

Posted by: Sarah R at November 7, 2007 10:29 AM

Yay Baby!! Congrats on the concert tickets, I knew G would find a way!

I started my own miter madness last night...I want it big enough to fit me queen-size bed. I think I will be mitering for a looooong time!

Posted by: andi at November 7, 2007 11:48 AM

Ooh that is so exciting! (Both the tickets, and more importantly, the baby!)

I hope the weather here in DC is bright and beautiful for your trip!

Posted by: Lindsey at November 7, 2007 11:51 AM

Aww! Even as a super hazy ultrasound image, your baby is already cute!

Posted by: connie at November 7, 2007 11:57 AM

Aaaand, I'll be in NY this weekend. NATURALLY! HAve a great time!! AND CONGRATS ON THE HUMAN SPAWN!

Posted by: Lara at November 7, 2007 12:41 PM

Beautiful baby! I'm so glad everything is okay and that the baby is perfect! And have fun at the concert! You deserve it.

Posted by: Anita at November 7, 2007 01:17 PM

You are so good to share your experience - it's a good reminder that your baby is indeed another human - with all the potential that goes along with it. Considering how SIMPLE you made it for all of us to be a part of the HUGENESS that SpinOut does for Heifer (no matter where we live!), we can certainly be patient on the EXTRA goodies.

Posted by: robin at November 7, 2007 01:19 PM

Great news about the human! Sorry it took so much bruising to get that information!

Thanks for sharing the photos!

Posted by: Dr. B. at November 7, 2007 01:21 PM

Wow, thanks so much for posting the pics. I love seeing babies in utero. We got a foot pic too, and it's one of my favs. There's just something about those little dots/toes that just make you want to kiss them. Tell G too, that at this age, the gender thingie just looks like a little turtle, and you really have to look to see if you see a little "turtle head" poking out. I mean, you really have to be looking for it to really see it. Unless you're an ultrasound expert, which I'm thinking he's not. So, no worries. Besides, judging from the acrobatics you had to do just to get the measurements, the baby was probably sitting with it's legs crossed and it's hands in front of it's little crotch anyway.

Posted by: Kathy in KS at November 7, 2007 02:06 PM

Yea!! Humans are the best kind of baby to get!

love the foot shot.

Posted by: Ruth at November 7, 2007 02:55 PM

Baby! what a cutie!

Posted by: Lolly at November 7, 2007 03:42 PM

I doubt there is anything cuter than and ultrasound of a baby's foot! Congrats. I'll think about that little picture when TBA is jabbing me in my ribs tonight.

Posted by: lola at November 7, 2007 05:40 PM

Those baby in utero profile shots always make me think of Alfred Hitchcock Presents...or Winston Churchill.

Posted by: Cristina at November 7, 2007 06:59 PM

Yeah !!! it is a human. = ). I use to tell people that too when they asked what I was having. Rest and take it easy.

Posted by: Qutecowgirl at November 7, 2007 07:39 PM

Those are some great baby pics! Love the full belly and lovely round head (great profile there).

Posted by: lisa at November 7, 2007 08:15 PM

If the baby is a boy, you may have to name him BRUCE. You already realize that any baby, girl or boy, is automatically THE BOSS.
Glad all's well with the ultrasound. Best wishes from Ontario, Canada.

Posted by: Jo-Anne at November 7, 2007 10:16 PM

Both times I was pregnant when people asked me what we were having I would say "we're having a baby!".
It's funny how focused people get on finding out the gender.
Glad to know the ultrasound went well.

Posted by: Marie at November 7, 2007 10:53 PM

i am so glad that the pregnancy is going well...despite the puking! that is just such a great profile pic! nice job on your human!

Posted by: Lindsey at November 8, 2007 01:16 AM

Congrats on the clear ultrasound! Such a relief, isn't it, to know for sure things are going well in there!

And congrats on the Bruce tix! Hubby and I got free box seat (never thought I'd say THAT!) tickets to see Bruce in Philly, and even though I'm not a fan, he rocked the shit outta the place! Amazing!

Posted by: Amanda at November 8, 2007 08:48 AM

That's quite a human! Have a great time Bruce-ing it up!

Posted by: mrspilkington at November 8, 2007 01:18 PM

Hm. Sonagrams aren't supposed to hurt... They're supposed to be cold and tickle. I wonder if the tech knew what they were doing.

Our kid would kick in time to the car stereo music while in utero. Is it any wonder she's so great at playing the viola, guitar, and recorder? I'm sure the baby Boss will be wonderful, too.

Posted by: Laura at November 8, 2007 03:28 PM

Wholly crap, that is a foot!

Yay foot!!

Posted by: Sunflowerfairy at November 8, 2007 09:43 PM

I remember the feeling the first time I saw my baby...20 years ago. The scan looked like a bad Xerox of running water. Besides actually holding her in my arms, it was the most tangible proof that yes, I was so going to get the baby I wanted. Then when I called the doctor, who told me "it"..." was a female" knocked me out so completely that I couldn;t even understand what he was saying.

I, too, wanted children in the worst way. And one some days, I know I got the WORST children, there are still days when I think they are the best...and in the 23 years that I have had children, I have never regretted my desire to have them.

I have learned more about being a person because of them that they will ever possibly learn from me.

Posted by: Chloe at November 9, 2007 09:24 AM

Looks just like you ;)

I love the foot. And what looks like a chubby belly.

Posted by: Dr. Steph at November 9, 2007 10:32 AM
