Two Weeks

Hey everyone! Sorry to leave you hanging like that. Especially in light of the fact that the last post is really in no way indicative of how we're all getting along. Meli is really - and I say this completely objectively - the perfect baby girl. She rarely fusses, nurses like a champ, poops like an elephant (who subsists mainly on grey poupon. By the way, it's no coincidence that grey poupon has POO in the word!) And most importantly, she sleeps very well. I get a good three hours at a stretch every night between feedings.

She had her first drs appt yesterday and she's gained back to her birth weight and grown an inch. Of course, she probably had that inch at the hospital - G says they measured her with her legs in the air after she was born.

She's been to the mall (she's a Jersey girl - natch!), car shopping and spent much quality time with her adoring cousins. Aunts, uncles, grandparents - they've all been through to pay their respects to our little princess and this week Daddy's home with us! I hope to get back to regular-ish blogging next week when it's just the two of us (can you spell T-E-R-R-I-F-I-E-D?)

Here's some proof that we're doing well!

I've even done some knitting! I was right! The Rambling Rows blanket is the PERFECT newborn project. I can pick it up and put it down without any issues and I've already finished one square and am halfway through another since her birthday. I'm trying out slings this week so if all goes well, there will be more blogging and more knitting in my very near future.

Thanks again for all your lovely well wishes for our baby girl and our family. They mean so much to us! I'm hoping to have our birth story up soon - it's so important to me to get it all down and really everything went off without a hitch. While it wasn't exactly what we planned for - it couldn't have gone better.

See you soon!!

L, C & M

Awww :) Such a sweet baby!

Posted by: Kate at March 25, 2008 02:23 PM

Glad to hear things are going so well! I was terrified, too, but the thing about babies is that while they require immediate gratification of their needs, they don't have very many of them, so everything gets very simple. As you've no doubt discovered already.

The thing that helped me the most was having a seat/crib/swing/bassinet/some kind of baby container in every room, so that I could easily put the baby down for a few seconds when I needed to.

Posted by: Lucia at March 25, 2008 02:31 PM

Oh, she's a beautiful girl! (Makes me want one!)

Posted by: Danielle at March 25, 2008 02:32 PM

Posted by: Lisa Gossett at March 25, 2008 03:47 PM

What a gorgeous little girl!

On the subject of measurement -- I maintain we didn't get an accurate picture of Lucy's height until she was two months old, because she absolutely refused to stretch her legs out for any reason so help her GOD until then. The docs would lay her out on their little measuring tape gizmo and try to keep her head at the top, then pull her legs out straight...yeah, it didn't happen.

Posted by: Kristine at March 25, 2008 03:48 PM

She's just perfect, Cara. I remember the first few days alone....it was kind of scary but still so precious. How awesome it must be to finally be able to photograph your little one. She's beautiful.

Posted by: AmyH at March 25, 2008 03:52 PM

Oh goodness, look at how perfect she is! And purple is definitely her color. But of course since she's royalty it should be. :)

Posted by: April at March 25, 2008 03:53 PM

OMG, I SO want another one! Oh, those pictures are BAD!! My littlest has just had a big elephant poop too, LOL, only 2 year old elephants are a lot bigger than 2 week old elephants :) You won't believe how important poop becomes, LOL!

Posted by: TracyKM at March 25, 2008 04:03 PM

Time has a way of escaping. Get used to that, it only gets worse. She is truly beautiful, enjoy every moment. All too soon she will be be 14 and have an attitude that just will not quit. (The attitude does quit, sometimes it just takes a bit longer than with others.)

Posted by: Nichole D. at March 25, 2008 04:20 PM

What a cutie! And so much hair... her womb twin is jealous of all that hair (although Raley likes the red that she's got, even though there's not much of it).

She still must be stealing Raley's poo, as we're lucky to get one every third day or so.

And I'm glad to hear that she's taking it easy on her mommy and daddy - we need a break now and then, and there's nothing like 3 hours of sleep to do it! (Raley has started cooperating in that department too - hooray!)

Glad you liked the presents!

Our best to the three of you, and we got to get together soon! :)

She is magnificent...
What a beautiful little girl...
Glad everything went fine - mine is 15 now and when I look at yours - I just see her.
I also had the perfect baby for me: she had good long night (6 hrs straight)at a month and a half.
Breastfed and all - she was calm and everything went smoothly..
Congrats again - you will love it. !

She's so beautiful! Congratulations again! May the happy baby nature continue forever!

My, you are a lucky, lucky person. Not only is she beautiful, but she sleeps?

Mine slept in either 20 minute or 45 minute increments only for MONTHS. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Of course I love the little guy to pieces, but man, it was SO hard.

Glad you are doing so well (even if I am envious!)

(Personally I thought a fleece pouch was a godsend. The ring slings never worked for me.)

She is so beautiful, really. Wonderful eyes!

Oh she is so beautiful! Many, many congratulations on everything. As I am nowhere near baby land, I can only imagine how exciting it must be to have this opportunity to watch a person grow. The whole thing is wonderful.
